hpc-class: Machine Description

The hpc-class cluster consists of:

  • A front-end 3.06 GHz dual Intel Xeon server with 2 GB of error-correcting memory.
  • 62 compute nodes are 2.8 GHz dual Intel Xeons each with 2GB of ECC memory and 73GB of scratch disk.
  • A high speed Myrinet switch for fast (high bandwidth, low latency) MPI communication
  • A fileserver for the 640 GB shared /ptmp scratch filesystem
  • A 100 Mbit Fast Ethernet switch with Gigabit uplink for fast I/O to the AFS file servers.
  • For greater reliability, the front-end has a mirrored set of 73 GB SCSI system disks and hot-swappable power supplies and fans

  • More detailed Processor information

Each 2.8 GHz node processor has:

  • A 400 MhZ front-side bus, yieding a maximum of 3.2 GB/sec memory bandwidth
  • A direct-mapped 8 KB Level-1 cache running at full core speed
  • An 8 way associative 512 or 1024 KB Level-2 cache running at full core speed
  • The L2 cache line size is 128 bytes and the replacementy policy is LRU
